❦ about the author... and you
I’m not a variant hunter, or a healthcare worker, or a statistician.
If anything, I’d guess I’m an archivist, with an MSc (Distinction) from one of the United Kingdom’s largest teaching hospitals, and a dozen-or-so years hoofing it in editorial writing.
I suppose my other qualification since March 2020 is that I have PASC – and, like anyone else who cares about their family, I have a very personal stake in this on-going (and incoming) population-wide fallout from the 3D jigsaw that is SARS-2.
I originally made this website for those people closest to me (“...But where does it say that?!”).
They didn’t read – at least, they won’t, as the medical, practical and ethical repercussions of accepting the scientific evidence are too large to fathom – and so I write into the empty forest.
Without precautions or mitigations, all are now on their fourth- to sixth-plus infections as adults in the 18-85+ age group.
Their children – in the 0-17 age group – are now on their fifth- to seventh-plus infections.
(– “...But where does it say that?!”)
It says it here.
Regular reinfections occur approximately once a year or more, depending on the variant landscape, throughout the population age-range.
Vaccines, if taken regularly, can blunt the most severe of near-term post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection, and can help dampen medium-term PASC symptoms; but can only offer partial, short-term prevention of reinfection amidst on-going and unmitigated transmission.
The cumulative damage from repeat reinfections either kills slowly or quickly, and further debilitates the host: from foetus to 95-year-old.
King Louie
To willingly embrace ignorance regarding SARS-CoV-2 reinfection and continuous transmission is the medical version of preaching that the world is flat. (It isn’t.) Or believing that Eve did, in fact, spring from Adam’s rib. (She didn’t.) And, as distasteful as it may be to you: we are indeed Hominidae; a primate. A talking Great Ape.
Get over it.
Think new ‘sprains’ that will soon become permanent in your wrists, and knees and ankles. Don’t forget your shoulders and hips, and the heads of your femurs. Watch skin conditions deteriorate, and your hair fall out. Think shingles and strokes; cumulative immune dysfunction and brain damage with each reinfection; lymphocytopenia; and reactivation of latent HPV, EBV, and TB.
Think about the state of your memory, and your declining executive and motor function.
Think of those around you. Adults, children.
It all depends on how long they would like you to carry on playing Russian roulette with your revolver, spinning five empty chambers against one full.
For luck, I’ll give you all nine lives.
